Black Holes Can Warp Time

It’s not science fiction.

According to general relativity, time slows down near a black hole due to its immense gravity. An observer far away would see events near the black hole happening extremely slowly.

Why This Matters

This matters because it allows extreme tests of Einstein’s theory of relativity.

It also impacts how we interpret signals from objects orbiting black holes.

Did You Know?

Near a black hole, time passes much slower than it does elsewhere in the universe.
